After 2016, 2018 and 2022 (2020 no competition due to the pandemic) once again the class with the most first prizes in the category “solo violin” in Switzerland.

Selina Disch, pre-college student at the Zurich University of the Arts, wins the audition for a scholarship from the Robert A. Meier foundation.

Valentina Paetsch, former student of Philip A. Draganov’s violin class for many years, wins permanent position at the Deutsche Sinfonieorchester Berlin (DSO).

17-year-old Raphael Nussbaumer, Philip A. Draganov’s student since 2012, and currently student in his violin class at the Bern Academy of the Arts, wins second prize at the renowned "International Tibor Varga Violin Competition" in Sion, Switzerland. As one of 3 finalists (149 registrations, 24 admitted participants for the 1st round, 12 admitted participants for the 2nd round), he played Tchaikovsky's violin concerto in the final.
Raphael Nussbaumer has already won prizes at numerous international competitions, such as the Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition in Vienna, the Andrea Postacchini Violin Competition in Fermo and the Louis Spohr Competition in Weimar. He was also the only candidate from Europe in the semi-finals of the Menuhin competition (Junior Section).

The advantages of old master violins against modern violins - or vice versa - is one of the most discussed issues in the world of string instruments. A year can barely pass without a new scientific study, in which they claim to be able to definitely prove which one is better. For the most part, these supposed sensations reveal only one dimensional thinking, which can hardly ever be appropriate when defining a complex phenomenon such as the finite qualities of a string instrument.
